Assembled my Garand finally. Still needs a bit of fiddling to get the wood to stop splitting but it's looking presentable. next step make some magazines.

I had palpitations my first time..
I still can't believe the amount of crap you have to sort through, and it still annoys me slightly, that you are somehow made to feel privileged to be there.
No matter how rare the stuff is these days, its still a shop..

Sorry you feel that way. That is not the way I like to be treated when I go anywhere, and I certainly never treat people like that when I'm working there. As for it being "still" a shop - it's more than that to those of us who've grown up with it, it has never felt like work in fact, more a continuation of a hobby. Sadly, it's got less than two years left before it closes it's doors, and it'll leave a big hole.

I am sorry if I have offended you in any way, and I am sure if I had have dealt with you,'nice chap' things may have been different.. But to simplify things, shall we say... Nick's phone manner (as an example) leaves a lot to be desired..

Oooh, I really like that one! Is it sandtexture?

Yes it is, textured it myself using a thin film of araldite then sand. When dry I applied the paint, mesh and coat hanger wire band and fixtures then repainted.

I was awakened by the postie this morning with a long box containing the G43 woodwork I bought off the 'Bay a couple of weeks ago- didn't even know it had been shipped!
Quite pleased with the quality (it's a handmade repro stock) though I'm deliberating on whether to go ahead with my original idea or to change donor guns...

Ooh! What are you doing about the metalwork?

More power to ya! :good: I'm sure some people on here (i.e. ones who know what they're talking about - i.e. not me!) will have some good ideas which might help you out.

That's got a lot of cork on it.

Love the colour? Is it for the 198th "Canary" division?

I hadn't rubbed off all the loose cork when I took that but it is still quite "corky", but the texture looks okay with a coat of paint on it. Not happy with the shade of OD I have so it's off to get some Humbrol 155 now.
